STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON STATE ASSEMBLY BUDGET PROPOSAL

"Although we still have a long way to go to get a budget that is fair to New York City, the Assembly's one-house budget proposal represents a real improvement for the City-and the State as a whole-when compared to the Executive and Senate proposals.  Partial restorations of the Governor's school aid cuts would reduce the number of teachers we would lose, and the Assembly restores more funding for essential social services than the Senate.  I urge New Yorkers to demand that the Legislature do more to support our schools through commonsense revenue measures, and make it clear that New York City should not be asked to absorb an unfair and disproportionate cut to revenue sharing."
