STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE LANDMARKING OF PROSPECT HEIGHTS

Largest District in Almost Twenty Years to Receive Landmarks Designation

Eleventh Designation Outside of Manhattan Since 2003

"Over the last seven years we have worked to preserve and protect some of this City's most historic neighborhoods, and I applaud the Landmarks Preservation Commission for approving the designation of Prospect Heights today. Since 2003, we have designated 11 new districts outside of Manhattan, the highest number since the Commission's establishment. With its diverse architecture and variety of single family row houses, apartment houses, institutional and commercial buildings, Prospect Heights is the largest area to be designated a landmark since 1990.

"I'd like to thank Council Member Letitia James for her support of this designation, as well as the community members who helped make it possible."
