FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PR- 212-09 May 11, 2009 MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION REQUIRING THE INSTALLATION OF PLAYGROUND SIGNS WARNING OF THE POSSIBLITY OF HOT SURFACES Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws "The final bill before me is Introductory Number 896-A, sponsored by Council Members de Blasio, Lappin, Barron, Brewer, Gerson, Gonzalez, James, White , Jackson, Gennaro, Liu, Mitchell, Weprin and the Public Advocate, Betsy Gotbaum. "Introductory Number 896-A requires the installation of signs at the entrances to playgrounds warning of the possibility of excessive heat to playground surfaces. These signs will be placed at all entrances to playgrounds where there is not currently a sign directing visitors to wear footwear or when these signs are replaced. "I would like to thank Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe and his staff for their work on this bill. I would also like to thank the Council for approving this legislation."
