MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION TO RECONSITUTE AND STRENGTHEN THE WATERFRONT MANAGEMENT ADVISORY BOARD

Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

"The final bill before me today is Introductory Number 867-A, sponsored by Council Members Nelson, Brewer, Fidler, Koppell, Gerson, White, Eugene, Garodnick and Gennaro.  Introductory Number 867-A reconstitutes and strengthens the Waterfront Management Advisory Board.

"The reconstituted Board will have seventeen appointments including representatives from the Administration and Council, as well as leaders in a number of relevant industries including maritime, transportation and real estate.  The Board shall hold one meeting every six months and advise the Administration on matters relating to the industrial, commercial, residential, recreational or other use or development of wharves, waterfront property and waterfront infrastructure throughout the City and issue a report on March 1, 2010 and every two years thereafter.

"I would like to thank the Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Bob Lieber and Economic Development Corporation President Seth Pinsky and their staff for their work on this bill.  I would also like to thank the Council for approving this legislation."
