STATEMENT BY MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE MANHATTAN DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S RECOVERY OF $175 MILLION

"I'd like to thank Manhattan District Attorney Morgenthau for his office's successful prosecution of corporate criminals, which has resulted in his sending the City $175 million in proceeds from two recent cases, $109 million recovered from the Tyco defendants and $66 million as a portion of a settlement reached with Lloyds bank. This money, which will go directly to the City's general fund, will be used to fund vital City services in these tough economic times. Indeed, the City's taxpayers benefit every time our District Attorneys make these types of recoveries because the monies they collect belong to the City. I applaud District Attorney Morgenthau for bringing in fines and settlement money, especially at a time when we need to collect on every dollar that is owed to us."
