"Today, through the filing of a petition with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, New York City asked that the NRC acknowledge it as a participating party in future hearings concerning the re-licensing of the Indian Point nuclear power plant. Given the significant impact that an Indian Point re-licensing decision will have on New York City, which currently receives a significant share of its energy from the plant, it is crucial that we have a seat at the table when the advantages and disadvantages are evaluated. Today's filing with the NRC takes an important step toward ensuring that our voice is heard on the importance of maintaining a safe and secure nuclear power facility."
