STATEMENT BY MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON NEW GRANT PROGRAM FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY 9/11 ATTACKS

"The CDC's announcement that it is making $30 million available to treat residents, workers and other community members who are sick as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks is an important step toward ensuring that everyone whose health was affected by these attacks gets the treatment they need. When it appropriated funding to treat these populations last year, Congress recognized what the City first wrote in its report 'Addressing the Health Impacts of 9/11' in February 2007, that this was an unprecedented attack on America, and funding these programs is a federal obligation. I thank Secretary Leavitt and CDC for taking this necessary step to fulfill that obligation."
