STATEMENT BY MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON RESIGNATION OF CAU COMMISSIONER JONATHAN GREENSPUN

"For more than four years, Jonathan Greenspun was a voice for communities across New York, and New Yorkers have been extraordinarily fortunate to have a committed public servant like Jonathan, who has advocated on behalf of civic and community groups on a wide range of issues with intelligence, creativity and grace.

"As Commissioner of the Mayor's Community Assistance Unit, Jonathan was available day and night, ready to assist - whether it was coordinating the clean-up of over 70 million square feet of graffiti over the last four years or helping to set up countless forums for people to talk to their Mayor and their Commissioners at civic meetings and Chambers of Commerce across all of the five boroughs.  He forged a partnership in the Rockaways that will allow for the building of a memorial for Flight 587, and in the early days of my Administration, his presence was invaluable as the transition took place and he stepped up to serve the needs of the 9/11 families from helping them to navigate services to providing them with whatever measure of comfort he could when needed.

"No task was ever too small or large for Jonathan to take on, and he treated every call with equal weight whether it was a senior citizen who needed a pothole filled or a tree pruned, or keeping communities informed during citywide crises like the Blackout of 2003 and the recent transit strike.  Jonathan has served our City and State for over ten years with strength and dedication.  As he moves on to new challenges in his career as Managing Director at Mercury Public Affairs, a full-service communications firm, I wish Jonathan and his family the very best."
