STATEMENT BY MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE RESIGNATION OF CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER JOSEPH M. PERELLO

"Since being appointed in 2003 as the City's Chief Marketing Officer, Joe Perello and his team have created the first self-funded marketing and promotional engine in the City's history, which is generating more than $100 million in new cash and benefits.

"Working closely with Deputy Mayor Dan Doctoroff, Corporation Counsel Michael Cardozo and Economic Development Corporation President Andy Alper, Joe and his team provided the ingenuity that has spurred an innovative model for public-private partnerships and set the standard for municipal marketing. He and his team inspired new ideas and delivered unprecedented results in sponsorship, licensing, media and branding.

"Joe's leadership helped NYC Marketing become a powerful new enterprise that will further our mission to attract 50 million visitors by 2015.

"We wish Joe Perello the best in his new position as Executive Vice President with Masterfoods, USA, where he will launch that organization's new initiative in New York City and Hackettstown, New Jersey. New York City benefited from Joe's entrepreneurial thinking and willingness to try new things and we are sorry he is leaving."
