"The first bill before me is Introductory number 295-A, sponsored by Council Members Koppell, Barron, Clarke, Gennaro, Gerson, Jackson, Jennings, Nelson, Quinn, Stewart, Yassky, Liu, Recchia, Sears, Vann, Boyland and Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum.

"This bill requires that, at a place of assembly, an audible announcement be made within ten minutes of the start of any performance or program to notify the occupants of the locations of emergency exits. In theatres, the announcement may be projected upon a screen.

"I would like to thank the Fire Department and the City Council for their work on this bill."
