MAYOR BLOOMBERG’S STATEMENT ON THE ALLOCATION OF HOMELAND SECURITY FUNDING BASED ON RISK

“After years of fighting for our fair share of Homeland Security funding, I am pleased that House and Senate members have finally adopted proposals to allocate funds based on the threat of terrorism.  I have long-argued that Homeland Security funds must be allocated based on risk and not political pork, and today’s action in the Homeland Security Appropriations Conference will ensure that more funding will get to where it is needed most.  Although there is still a State minimum, all other Homeland Security funds will now be allocated based on risk and threat.  This is a tremendous step in the right direction.  I would like to thank Congressmen John Sweeney and Jose Serrano, members of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security, for their leadership on this issue.”
