"The next bill before me today is Introductory Number 174-A, sponsored by Council Members Brewer, Comrie, DeBlasio, Fidler, Gentile, Gioia, James, Koppell, Liu, Lopez, Monserrate, Nelson, Quinn, Rivera, Seabrook, Sears, Vallone, Vann, Weprin, Jackson, Avella, Jennings, Martinez, McMahon, Recchia, Yassky, Gerson, Gennaro, Boyland and Public Advocate Gotbaum. This legislation requires the Department of Information, Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) to make available periodic reports on data collected from the 311 Citizen Service Center.

"With 311 now becoming a fixture in New York City life, our Administration is paying greater attention to developing tools within 311 that enable government and the public to examine agency performance and foster accountability.

"Intro. 174-A helps meet this new objective by providing monthly reports to the Council and Community Boards that include detailed information on requests for service logged into 311. The reports will include information on the agency that received the request for service, the resolution status of that request, and the amount of time for the request to be resolved.

"I am pleased that my Administration worked with the Council to craft a bill that provides important information to the public while at the same time preserving DoITT's privacy policy, ensuring that information included in the reports is actually collected by DoITT, and ensuring that the reports are manageable and succinct.

"I would like to thank DoITT Commissioner Gino Menchini and his staff for their hard work on this legislation. I would also like to thank the Council for shepherding this bill through the legislative process."
