MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION EXTENDING DEADLINE FOR EXECUTIVE BUDGET SUBMISSION

Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

"The first bill before me today is Introductory Number 609-A, sponsored at the request of the Administration by Council Members Weprin, Stewart, Comrie, and Perkins.  This bill extends the deadlines for the Administration's submission of the proposed Executive Budget and budget message to the City Council.  The bill also extends the dates of submission for other various budget reports and actions from the City Council, Borough Presidents, and the Independent Budget Office.

"Under this bill, the Administration will submit the Executive Budget to the City Council no later than May 5, 2005 - nine days later than required by law. The date by which the City Council must hold hearings on the Executive Budget will be extended to June 6, 2005.

"This legislation is necessary to fully assess the fiscal climate prior to submission of the executive budget.  It also ensures that the release of the budget does not conflict with the Passover holiday."
