STATEMENT BY MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE CONTINUING DECREASE IN NEW YORK CITY’S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE

"New York City's economic resurgence is going strong.  The drop in the City's unemployment rate to 5.2% in March from 6.1% a month earlier marks the lowest rate since January of 2001, and marks a sharp plunge from 7.6% in the previous March.  In addition, the number of New York City residents employed increased by 1,100 to more than 3.5 million, the highest since January of 1978.  Our economic development strategy is creating jobs and opportunity in all five boroughs, and we won't stop until every New Yorker who wants a job can get one."
