STATEMENT BY MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE TRAGEDY IN SOUTHERN ASIA

"On behalf of all New Yorkers, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to those who have lost loved ones in the catastrophe that has ravaged southern Asia.  There has been tremendous loss of life and the great distance between our two parts of the world hasn't lessened the impact New Yorkers are feeling.  New York City is home to many South Asians and our prayers are with them and their families.

"The best way to help those afflicted by this massive tragedy is to send donations to organizations that provide disaster relief. The Office of Emergency Management has compiled a list of established organizations which would put donations to good use, and allow the purchase of food, water, medicine, recovery equipment and temporary shelter. Those New Yorkers wishing to make a donation can get the contact information for these organizations by calling 311 or visiting www.nyc.gov

"The City stands ready to do all we can to help the survivors of this disaster. We recommend the following organizations if you would like to make a donation:"
