STATEMENT BY MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON DEADLY FLOODS IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AND HAITI

“In light of the increasing death toll in Haiti, Deputy Mayor Dennis Walcott and two Disaster Management Specialists from the New York City Office of Emergency Management are traveling to Port-au-Prince this morning to conduct an assessment of what aid we can provide.  As with the team that is currently in the Dominican Republic, they will look at areas of health and human services, infrastructure, sanitation, and mass casualty care and make a recommendation to Commissioner Bruno and myself.

“Working with WorldVision, Alianza Dominicana and the Batey Relief Alliance, we are already shipping supplies to help the rescue workers in both countries including bottled water, insect repellent, rain gear, flashlights, boots, generators, shovels, batteries, work gloves and buckets.

“The City stands ready to do all we can for those affected by this horrible tragedy.”
