Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today announced that NYC TV, the official TV network of the City of New York, received four New York Emmy award nominations.  The New York Emmy awards are local television's most coveted peer recognition award.  The nominations were announced this morning at the 2004 New York Emmy Awards Nomination Breakfast hosted at The Sports Company in Manhattan.  NYC TV was nominated in four separate categories for awards that will be announced at the 2004 New York Emmys on March 28, 2004 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. 

"Today's nominations for the New York Emmy awards demonstrate that NYC TV is producing quality programming that New Yorkers enjoy and industry experts admire," said Mayor Bloomberg.  "When we launched NYC TV last year, we set forth an ambitious agenda to improve the programming, open a window into New York City government, and to promote New York City.  Today's nominations prove that we are on the right track."

"Not even a year old, NYC TV, along with 311 and nyc.gov, has already become an integral part of the City's efforts to communicate more effectively and directly with New Yorkers," said DoITT Commissioner Gino Menchini.  "We're looking forward to launching a new season of programming in the coming months that will build on all of our successes."

NYC TV was launched in summer of 2003 to promote 'Everything New York' and further open the window into New York City government.  NYC TV cablecasts programming twenty-four hours a day on five different channels to all basic cable subscribers in New York City, reaching over 1.8 million households in the five boroughs.  NYC TV is administered by the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications. The flagship channel is cable channel 74, which features the shows "$9.99", "City Classics", and "Inside the Archives".
