MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG’S STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR PATAKI’S VETO OF LEGISLATURE’S BUDGET

“Out of respect for the Governor, I have had our senior budget officers study yesterday’s proposal.  It is very clear that the City’s best interests are served by the legislative budget restorations and the corresponding City revenue bill even if it has to be done through an override.  Together, these actions address $2.7 billion of our fiscal needs.  The Governor proposed $1.7 billion of actions to help the City, some of which do not provide immediate help.  The Governor’s proposal, coupled with his veto of the restorations fall short of the level of support New York City needs.  Given the need to get our City budget in place as the new fiscal year approaches, I would urge the Senate and the Assembly to maintain the actions that have been agreed upon.  I look forward to working with the Governor and the legislative leaders as we go forward on a wide range of issues.”
