MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG’S STATEMENT ON THE SCHUMER-SNOWE BILL THAT WOULD SEND $650 MILLION IN ECONOMIC AID TO NEW YORK CITY

“New York City has made unbelievable progress in rebuilding since the attack on the World Trade Center but our remaining challenges, specifically our fiscal difficulties, are formidable.  In order to close the budget gap, we need our allies in Albany and in Washington to come through for us. That is why I am supporting this bipartisan effort led by Senators Schumer and Snowe, to provide $40 billion in direct federal aid to state and local governments. It is estimated that this stimulus bill would translate into roughly $650 million in aid for the City which we sorely need during these tough fiscal times."
