MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG AND MTV PRESIDENT VAN TOFFLER ANNOUNCE 2002 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS TO AIR LIVE FROM RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, MTV & MTV2 President Van Toffler and Radio City Entertainment Senior Vice President for Entertainment Joel Peresman today announced that the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from New York City's Radio City Music Hall on August 29th. This is the fourth straight year that the MTV Music Awards will broadcast from New York City.

"As the music capital of the world and MTV's home base, there is no better place on earth to host MTV's annual music awards extravaganza," said Mayor Bloomberg. "This star-studded event has become one of New York City's signature award shows. New York City's love of music and appreciation of the entertainment industry knows no boundaries and we look forward to another spectacular show at Radio City Music Hall this August."

"Our plan is to throw the last big bash of the summer right here in our own backyard," said MTV President Toffler. "By bringing together artists, fans and the City's creative community for MTV's biggest night of the year, we hope to show our love and support for the place we call home every day."

"Radio City Music Hall hosting the MTV Awards is the ultimate New York blind date. It is sexy, elegant, unpredictable and it has fireworks that can only happen in New York," said Radio City Entertainment Senior Vice President Peresman. "We are thrilled to be hosting the upcoming 2002 VMA's and look forward to one of the best shows yet."

The 19th Annual MTV Music Awards will be broadcast live on August 29th at 8:00 p.m. Last year, over 50 million viewers in the United States tuned in to watch the program. The 2002 Video Music Awards will be available to a potential viewing audience of over 1 billion people.
