Visiting a Patient

Important Information for Visitors

Metropolitan Hospital Center is a patient- and family-centered care environment that provides Open Visitation and supports flexible visiting hours for patients, family and friends in many areas of the hospital.

All visitors must obtain a visitor’s pass from the Hospital Information Desk, located in the Main Building Lobby, prior to visiting a patient in the hospital. After 8 PM, please obtain the visitor’s pass from the Admitting Office, located on the first floor of the hospital.

Patients have the right to designate any visitors, including a spouse, domestic partner, a same sex domestic partner, another family member or a friend to be their designated support person. The hospital does not restrict, limit, or otherwise deny visitation privileges based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability. Patients may withdraw or deny consent to visitation to anyone at any time.

The hospital maintains the right to restrict visitors when clinically necessary, and shall explain these restrictions to the patient and their designated support person.

General Visiting Hours: Open Visitation

Children are not restricted by age. Children under the age of 16 must be supervised by an adult, and may be allowed to stay for a short period of time. Any child with fever or symptoms of acute illness including upper respiratory infection, cough, runny nose, gastroenteritis, open lesions, dermatitis or who have been recently exposed to a known communicable disease will not be permitted to visit.

Behavioral Health Visiting Hours

Visiting hours in the inpatient behavioral health units (5West, 6West, 7South, 8West, and 9West) are from Monday through Sunday, 2 PM to 4 PM, and 6 PM to 10 PM, unless there is a clinical justification for a restriction. Visitation is not permitted in the inpatient detoxification services for clinical reasons.

Children visiting who are under the age of 18 must be approved in advance by the Treatment Team of the patient, and they must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
