Coney Island Hospital’s Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit has recently expanded. As a result, we have tripled the number of procedures we perform. In addition, our Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit has new state- of-the-art equipment. A team of highly experienced gastroenterologists working together with our well-trained and dedicated endoscopy nurses have made the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit one of the finest in Brooklyn.

The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit strongly recommends Colonoscopy for everyone 50 years of age and older. Here’s why:

• Colon cancer causes more than 1,500 deaths each year in New York City, although it’s nearly 100% curable if detected early
• Men are at higher risk than women for developing colorectal cancer
• The risk of developing colon cancer increases with age
• Colonoscopy is the most accurate test and the only test that can actually remove polyps before they develop into cancer
