Weekend Traffic Advisory: With Extensive Street Closures Planned, Drivers Strongly Advised to Avoid Manhattan This Weekend
With St Patrick’s Parade in Manhattan on Saturday and NYC Half Marathon in Brooklyn and Manhattan on Sunday, use of mass transit highly encouraged
NEW YORK – The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) and NYC Police Department (NYPD) issued a weekend traffic advisory today advising drivers that if at all possible, to avoid driving into and around Manhattan this weekend. With this weekend's two major events, the St Patrick's Day Parade and the NYC Half Marathon, major streets and roadways will be closed – and vehicle movement around large sections of Manhattan and Brooklyn will be limited. Use of mass transit is highly encouraged.
On Saturday, many Midtown Manhattan streets between 43rd and 83rd Streets will be closed as the St Patrick's Day Parade marches up Fifth Avenue, starting at 11 a.m. Streets may be closed before and after parade hours at the discretion of the NYPD.
On Sunday, beginning at 7 a.m., the NYC Half Marathon will be run from Prospect Park in Brooklyn to Manhattan's Central Park and into Times Square, where the race will end. Major closures include Flatbush Avenue, the Manhattan Bridge, the FDR Drive and other major streets and avenues on the East Side and within Midtown Manhattan.
