Upper roadway lane reductions and reconfigurations planned throughout project to rehabilitate 113-year-old bridge

Motorists are strongly encouraged to take mass transit or seek alternate routes

The New York City Department of Transportation announced today it will begin previously announced work to replace the upper deck of the Queensboro Bridge. The construction will require long-term lane reductions on the upper roadway, beginning with an overnight closure of the Queens-bound lanes Friday night, February 11, through Saturday morning, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to take mass transit or seek alternate routes as crews carry out the complete replacement of the 113-year-old bridge's upper level.

Beginning Monday morning, February 14, the NYC DOT will implement lane closures on the upper roadway's Manhattan-bound lanes six days a week – excluding Sundays – until further notice.

One Manhattan-bound lane will be closed 24-hours a day. The second Manhattan-bound lane will be closed during off-peak hours: from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the day, and from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. overnight.

On Friday nights, the second Manhattan-bound lane closure will be extend into Saturday afternoons, from 8 p.m. on Fridays to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

During off-peak closures beginning Monday, the DOT will redirect upper-roadway traffic to the two current Queens-bound lanes, with one lane serving Manhattan-bound traffic and the other maintained for Queens-bound traffic.
