NYC DOT Announces the Return of "Summer Streets" Along Park Avenue, Connecting Streets from Central Park to Brooklyn Bridge
Seven miles of car-free streets on two August Saturdays will include a range of activities, encouraging participants to walk, run, cycle, and play.
Today, the New York City Department of Transportation announced its thirteenth Summer Streets, taking place on Saturdays, August 7th and 14th, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.along Park Avenue, Lafayette, and Centre Streets. DOT will once again curate a great roster of fun and free activities along this car-free route.
Since 2008, DOT has presented Summer Streets on nearly seven miles of streets, spanning from Central Park to the Brooklyn Bridge. This iconic stretch was made accessible to the public for free activities and outdoor recreation, including walking, running, cycling, and playing. In accordance with statewide restrictions due to COVID-19, the Summer Streets initiative was temporarily discontinued. However, following the recent ban lifts and the undeniable success of the Open Streets and Open Restaurants program, DOT is excited to reactivate the Summer Streets program this August.
