Check who operates bridges and tunnels

Permits for parades, block parties, major street fairs and other public street events are not issued by NYC DOT, and are listed on the Citywide events calendar.

The City of New York's Department of Transportation issued a traffic alert for this week providing the locations of road construction and events where lane and street closings will affect the flow of traffic. Lane closings may also occur due to circumstances beyond our control. Major road, lane and street closings for the coming week are as follows:

East River Bridge Crossings

Ed Koch/Queensboro Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound north upper roadway will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and south upper roadway will be closed from 10 pm to 5 am next morning. Queens-bound south outer roadway will be closed Sunday to Saturday from 12 am to 6 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate replacement of upper roadway.

Manhattan Bridge

Single-lane Manhattan-bound lower roadway will be closed 24/7 and single-lane Manhattan-bound north upper roadway will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm to facilitate bridge structural strengthening.

Williamsburg Bridge

Single-lane Brooklyn-bound south outer roadway will be closed from Saturday 5 am to Monday 5 am and Monday to Friday from 5 am to 7 pm. Single-lane Brooklyn-bound south inner roadway will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm. Single-lane Manhattan-bound north outer roadway will be closed Monday to Friday from 7 pm to 5 am and single-lane north inner roadway will be closed from 8 pm to 5 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate Structural Strengthening.

Manhattan

Battery Park Underpass between FDR Drive and Route 9A/West Street

One tube at a time in either direction will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning through April 28, 2023, to facilitate inspection and maintenance. Only one direction per night will be closed.

FDR Drive in the vicinity of East 15 Street

Single-lane and shoulder on northbound and/or southbound, between East 14 Street and Avenue C/East 18 Street ramp, will be closed Monday to Saturday from 10 pm to 5 am next morning. Also, the East 18 Street on-ramp to southbound FDR and off-ramp from northbound FDR will be partially closed during these times. Double-lane and on-ramp from Avenue C southbound will be closed Tuesday to Thursday from 12:01 am to 5 am next morning and Saturday and Sunday from 1 am to 7 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate Coastal Resiliency and will continue through December 31, 2023.

FDR Drive between Montgomery Street and East 15 Street

Single-lane northbound and/or southbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 pm to 5 am, Saturday from 12:01 am to 9 am, and Sunday from 1 am to 11 am. Double-lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 1 am to 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 7 am, and Sunday from 1 am to 7 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate median reconstruction and will continue through August 15, 2026.

FDR Drive between East 53 Street and East 61 Street

The East 53 Street Exit Ramp on the southbound FDR Drive will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 1 am to 5 am, Saturday from 2 am to 6 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 7 am through March 31, 2023 to facilitate the 54 Street Pedestrian Bridge construction.

FDR Drive between East 73 Street and East 71 Street

Single-lane in both directions will be closed Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 5:30 am next morning, Friday from 11 pm to 10 am next morning, and Saturday from 11 pm to 11 am next morning. Double-lane northbound will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 1 am to 5 am, Saturday from 2 am to 6 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 7 am. Double-lane southbound will be closed Tuesday to Friday from 12 am to 5 am, Saturday and Sunday from 12 am to 9 am. Southbound FDR Drive service road between East 73 and East 71 Streets, FDR Exit Ramp (Exit 13), and Entrance Ramp to southbound FDR Drive will be closed Monday to Friday from 9:30 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday from 11 pm to 10 am next morning, and Saturday from 11 pm to 11 am next morning. These closures will continue through August 31, 2023 and are necessary to facilitate construction of Kellen Tower over the FDR Drive.

Bronx/Manhattan

Madison Avenue Bridge over Harlem River

Single-lane in either direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm through March 31, 2023, to facilitate bridge rehabilitation. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. Both sidewalks will remain open to pedestrians.

Robert F. Kennedy Bridge (RFK Bridge)

Single-lane in each direction will be closed Monday to Friday from 10:30 pm to 5 am next morning, Saturday from 12 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday from 12 am to 11 am on the FDR Drive/Harlem River Drive (HRD) in the vicinity of RFK Bridge. Also, Willis Avenue ramp from the FDR Drive/HRD northbound will partially be closed during these times. These closures will continue through June 1, 2023 to facilitate New Pedestrian Walkway and Fender Rehabilitation.

Willis Avenue Bridge

Bridge will be fully closed, including the sidewalks, up to two nights per week, Monday to Friday from 1 am to 4 am, through June 2, 2023, to facilitate electrical repairs. Motorists are advised to use Madison Avenue Bridge as an alternate route.

Bronx

Burnside Avenue and Grand Concourse

Single-lane at a time will be closed on Burnside Avenue, Monday to Friday from 12:01 am to 5 am to facilitate concrete repairs. Traffic will return to its original configuration after work hours.

Eastern Boulevard Bridge

Single-lane northbound will be closed Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm and from 10 pm to 6:30 am next morning. Double-lane will be closed Monday to Sunday from 1 am to 6:30 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate repairs and will continue through March 31, 2023. At least one lane of traffic will be open at all times.

Grand Concourse Bridge over Metro North Railroad Hudson Line between 151 Street and 153 Street

Median and northbound lanes will be closed from 7 am to 3:30 pm and 10 pm to 6 am next morning to facilitate structural steel repairs through April 7, 2023. Two lanes of traffic in both directions will be shifted to the southbound lanes and maintained at all times.

Hutchinson River Parkway in the vicinity of Westchester Avenue Bridge

Single-lane northbound will close Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 11 pm to 3 pm next day, and Saturday from 11 pm to 2 pm next day. Single-lane southbound will close Monday to Thursday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 5 am next morning, Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10 pm to 6 am next morning, and Saturday from 10 pm to 2 pm next day. Double-lane northbound will close Monday to Friday from 12:01 am to 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 7 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 9 am. Double-lane southbound will close Monday to Friday from 12:01 am to 5 am, Saturday from 1 am to 6:30 am, and Sunday from 2 am to 9 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate Westchester Avenue Bridge reconstruction and will continue through December 31, 2023.

Major Deegan Expressway (northbound) between Exit 3 and Entrance ramp north of East 138 Street

Right-lane will become an exit only lane at Exit 3 24/7. Additional lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am, Saturday and Sunday from 1 am to 8 am, and Sunday night from 10 pm to 5 am next morning through March 3, 2025, to facilitate East 138 Street Bridge replacement. Full closure may occur Monday to Friday between 12 am and 5 am for demolition and erection of the superstructure.

Major Deegan Expressway (southbound) between Exit 3 and Entrance ramp south of East 138 Street

Right-lane will become an exit only lane at Exit 3 24/7. Additional lane will be closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am, Saturday and Sunday from 1 am to 8 am, and Sunday night from 10 pm to 5 am next morning through March 3, 2025 to facilitate East 138 Street Bridge replacement. Southbound exit ramp to 138 Street bridge will be closed Monday to Friday from 11 pm to 5 am, Friday from 11 pm to 6 am next morning, Saturday from 11 pm to 9 am next morning, and Sunday from 11 pm to 5 am next morning to facilitate water main connections.

Shore Road Bridge over the Hutchinson River

Single-lane northbound will be closed from 7 am to 9 am. Single-lane in both directions will be closed from 9 am to 1 pm and 10 pm to 7 am next morning. These closures are necessary to facilitate bridge maintenance and will continue through Friday, March 31, 2023. One lane of traffic will be maintained at all times.

Brooklyn/Queens

Metropolitan Avenue Bridge over English Kills

Brooklyn-bound lanes will be closed Saturday and Sunday from 7 am to 2 pm through March 26, 2023, to facilitate maintenance. Single-lane in each direction will be maintained on the Queens-bound lanes.

Manhattan/Brooklyn

NYC Half Marathon

The following streets will be closed for the NYC Half Marathon on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at the discretion of NYPD in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Northbound lanes will be closed and approximately 18 parking spaces will be eliminated from both sides, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 2 pm through March 24, 2023, to facilitate bridge rehabilitation. Two-way traffic will be maintained on the southbound lanes.

Brooklyn St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The following streets will be closed for the Brooklyn St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 19th, 2023, at the discretion of NYPD in Brooklyn.

Grand Central Parkway by 31 Street

Double-lane will be closed Tuesday and Thursday from 12:01 am to 5 am through March 30, 2023, to facilitate maintenance. At least one lane will remain open at all times.

Grand Central Parkway between 47 Street and Hazen Street

Single-lane in both directions will be closed weeknights from 10 pm to 5 am next morning to facilitate flood mitigation and will continue through June 20, 2023.

Grand Central Parkway between Long Island Expressway (I-495) and 62 Street Pedestrian Bridge

Single-lane in both directions will be closed weeknights from 10 pm to 5 am next morning and double-lane will be closed from 12:01 am to 5 am to facilitate flood mitigation and will continue through June 20, 2023.

Long Island Expressway between Van Wyck Expressway and Grand Central Parkway

Single-lane westbound will be closed weeknights from 10 pm to 5 am next morning and single-lane eastbound will be closed weeknights from 11 pm to 6 am next morning. Ramp from eastbound Horace Harding Expressway to eastbound Grand Central Parkway will be closed weeknights from 12:01 am to 5 am. Single-lane westbound Long Island Expressway service road will be closed weeknights from 10 pm to 5 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate flood mitigation and will continue through June 20, 2023.

Rehabilitation of Whitestone Expressway Bridge over Belt-Cross Island Parkway

Queens-bound I-678 Exit 16 (ramp to Cross Island Parkway South) and Bronx-bound I-678 North (ramp to Bronx-Whitestone Bridge) will be reduced to one 11-foot travel lanes Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm to facilitate bridge rehabilitation.

Van Wyck Expressway by Roosevelt Avenue Bridge

Double-lane will be closed in either direction, but not at the same time. Double-lane southbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 12:01 am to 6 am, Saturday from 1 am to 5 am, and Sunday from 1 am to 9 am. Double-lane northbound will be closed Monday to Friday from 12:01 am to 5:30 am, Saturday from 1 am to 6 am, and Sunday from 1 am to 7:30 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate the Roosevelt Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation and will continue through April 2, 2023.

Van Wyck Expressway between Long Island Expressway (I-495) and Pedestrian Bridge south of Jewel Avenue

Single-lane southbound will be closed weeknights from 11 pm to 5 am next morning and double-lane will be closed from 12:01 am to 6 am. Single-lane northbound will be closed weeknights from 11 pm to 5 am next morning and double-lane will be closed from 12:01 am to 5:30 am. These closures are necessary to facilitate flood mitigation and will continue through June 20, 2023.

Van Wyck Expressway

Single-lane in both directions will be closed Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm, Monday to Thursday from 10 pm to 6 am, Friday from 11:59 pm to 8 am, Saturday from 11 pm to 10 am, and Sunday from 10 pm to 6 am. Double-lane in both directions will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 pm to 4 am and Sunday from 1 am to 7 am. Double-lane will be closed Friday from 11 pm to 7 am for northbound and from 11 pm to 5 am for southbound. The exit and entrance ramps along the north and southbound of the expressway may also be closed. These closures will continue through July 14, 2025. Also, single-lane will be closed southbound Van Wyck Expressway connection to the eastbound Belt Parkway/Nassau Expressway, and northbound between exit ramp to eastbound Belt Parkway/Nassau Expressway and entrance ramp from westbound Nassau Expressway, through September 20, 2023. These closures are necessary to facilitate roadway widening.
