Citizens Advisory

Please be advised that consumers of water from the City’s supply system are being contacted by companies asking to check the quality of water in their homes. These companies are not affiliated with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

"I want to assure everyone that the City’s water is of the highest quality, meeting and surpassing all Federal and State health-based standards," said DEP Commissioner Joel A. Miele Sr., P.E. "Department staff collect more than 1,300 water samples per month from 488 locations throughout the City. Water samples are analyzed for bacteria, chlorine levels, pH, inorganic and organic pollutants, clarity, odor and many other water quality indicators."

If you are suspicious of any person or persons asking to test your water, please call your local police precinct or the City’s Department of Investigation at 212-825-5959.

If you have serious concerns about water quality in your building, you may call (718) DEP-HELP (337-3457) to request sampling of the water in your home.
