During the month of June, which is Elder Abuse awareness and Gun Violence awareness month, and especially this June, when we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising and New York City hosts World Pride, our Office re-commits to continually working through intersectional lens to support all survivors, as well as those who cause harm. Throughout June, the Mayor's Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence is participating in a number of Pride and other awareness events to promote services available to survivors in New York City, and to support elder and LGBTQ+ New Yorkers who may be experiencing intimate partner or family violence. We are continuing to keep dialogue open with our sister agencies, partners, and advocates in order to identify programmatic needs, and ensure inclusive and affirming services are provided to all who seek services at the NYC Family Justice Centers (FJCs).

Between 2010 and 2018, the FJCs served at least 1,621 clients who were experiencing intimate partner elder abuse. Support is available to survivors of domestic and gender-based violence at New York City's Family Justice Centers, regardless of age, income, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Services at FJCs citywide are free, confidential, and affirming. Additional information and resources can be found online at the City's domestic and gender-based violence resource directory, NYC HOPE (www.nyc.gov/nychope).

We know that New Yorkers from especially vulnerable groups, such as elderly and LGBTQ+ New Yorkers, can be particularly vulnerable to abuse and face unique barriers to getting assistance. Join us at events around New York City this month to raise awareness - they are critical to making sure that survivors know that help is available and where they can find it.
