DYCD's Fatherhood Initiative helps fathers reconnect with their children and develop essential parenting skills by increasing engagement and responsibility with their child/children and providing material and financial support for them. Services include individual and family counseling, parenting classes, mentoring and more. Formerly the Mental Health Association of New York City (MHA-NYC), Vibrant Emotional Health is a non-profit organization that helps people achieve emotional wellbeing. They offer confidential emotional support through crisis hotline services including the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and NYC Well. Through its Adolescent Skills Centers, Family Resource Centers, and other community wellness programs, children, teens, and families obtain supports and skills they need to thrive. The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) offers multiple scholarships to support our residents as they increase their income and assets through higher education. All scholarships award one-time $1,000 grants to eligible residents who are pursuing undergraduate degrees at a City University of New York (CUNY) college. Deadline to apply is June 23, 2018.

4th of July Fireworks

Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, the nation’s largest Independence Day display, will return to the East River this year. The 41st edition of the festivities will showcase a 25-minute display featuring never-before-seen shells and effects. Pyro Spectaculars by Souza is once again at the helm of the pyrotechnics that will feature multiple new shells including color changing chrysanthemums, purple crackling ghost peonies, orange bees, and pulsing happy faces in 23 electrifying colors including fuchsia, lemon and aqua.

Queerocracy

Queerocracy is an organizing project of VOCAL-NY building power among homeless and street involved LGBTQ youth and young adults. It provides a platform to have their voices and experiences heard in meaningful ways that empower directly impacted communities. Queerocracy meets every Wednesday at The Center from 5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. All are welcome. Free dinner and MetroCard provided.
