SBS CELEBRATES NEW MILESTONE OF $60 MILLION SAVED FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

More Than 8,500 Small Businesses Served by NYC BEST Since 2022

NEW YORK – New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS) Commissioner Dynishal Gross today announced a new milestone in the administration's effort to supercharge New York City's economy by assisting more than 8,500 unique small businesses, saving them over $60 million dollars in fines and fees through SBS's Business Express Service Team (NYC BEST) since the start of the Adams administration. Launched in September 2022, NYC BEST provides New York City's small businesses with one-on-one expert support to help business owners not only resolve or avoid fines and violations but also save time and money navigating city government rules and permitting processes.

In addition to these savings, SBS has helped New York City small businesses launch and expand by facilitating more than $325 million in financing assistance, including $85 million through the historic NYC Small Business Opportunity Fund and more than $3 million through the NYC Funds Finder online marketplace.

"When SBS launched NYC BEST in 2022 we did so with a singular focus: making local government work for small business," said SBS Commissioner Dynishal Gross. "Today, our commitment to cutting fines and fees, speeding up permitting, and providing one-on-one support for small businesses is stronger than ever. By bridging the gulf between the private sector and City Hall, NYC BEST has proven that government can be an ally for our city's entrepreneurs, rather than an impediment. Our work providing government navigation assistance, compliance consultations, free inspections, and advice on best practices will continue to make New York City the greatest city for small business. We are just getting started!"

The announcement comes as the Adams administration celebrates more than 4.8 million total jobs in New York City and a record 183,000 small businesses in operation, ahead of Small Business Saturday 2025. This year, New Yorkers are encouraged to visit the Shop Your City website and its Live NYC storefront map to do their holiday shopping while supporting the local economy.
