Carly Avezzano is the Director of Strategic Relationships, NYC Junior Ambassadors in the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs. In this role, she supports initiatives to highlight the programs and services of NYC agencies. She also works to strengthen partnerships with the United Nations, Permanent Missions, Consulates, civil society organizations, and the private sector. Carly is the main point of contact for Consulates General and Permanent Missions to the United Nations from Europe and Eurasia. She also manages the NYC Junior Ambassadors program, empowering youth and educators across the five boroughs to engage with the UN and its mission through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals. Carly also designs strategic initiatives in areas such as economic development, technology, and climate resilience while fostering collaboration between NYC and global counterparts.
Carly is passionate about fostering global citizenship, amplifying youth voices in international affairs, and building programs that address global challenges and inspire meaningful social impact. She built her career in global education, community engagement, and program management. Prior to joining the Office, Carly was the Director of Global Education at Global Kids Inc., where she led programs to promote youth leadership, civic engagement, and global competence among students in New York City schools. Carly also taught English in Montpellier, France, through the TAPIF program and coordinated service-learning experiences for high school students in Boston with buildOn.
She holds a master’s degree in social work from Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work and a bachelor’s degree in international studies and French from Macalester College. At Macalester, she gained early experience in the field through her work at the college's Civic Engagement Center and a semester abroad in Rabat, Morocco.
Outside of work, Carly enjoys exploring NYC neighborhoods, traveling, cooking, and spending time outdoors.
