NYC EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT RELEASES 2024 ANNUAL REPORT

Report provides snapshot of the agency’s accomplishments from January 2024 through December 2024

February 19, 2025 — The New York City Emergency Management Department released its annual report today, highlighting the agency’s achievements from January through December 2024. The report presents an overview of the agency’s role in coordinating the City’s response to numerous incidents while continuing its mission to help New Yorkers prepare before, during and after emergencies.

“In 2024, NYC Emergency Management answered the call to a multitude of emergencies, ranging from the continuing asylum seekers crisis to winter weather, air quality concerns, flood and rain events, a drought and brushfires,” said New York City Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol. “Throughout it all, our team remained steadfast in its commitment to help every New Yorker. I’m very proud to lead an agency where every person embodies the strength, courage, and resiliency that New York City is known for.”

NYC Emergency Management provided critical interagency coordination of the City’s response to multiple emergencies. In 2024, the Emergency Operations Center was activated 19 times for severe weather, flooding, and other disruptions throughout the city. NYC Emergency Management monitored 3,331 incidents in 2024 and engaged in 786 field responses.

To keep New Yorkers informed about emergencies, Notify NYC, New York City’s official free emergency alert system, sent 21 messages on air quality, 244 messages on flooding and rain, and 17 messages on winter weather.

Additionally, NYC Emergency Management continued to provide aid outside of the five boroughs. New York Task Force 1 (NY-TF1) deployed after devastating hurricanes hit North Carolina and Florida. NY-TF1 team members and canines searched areas impacted by infrastructure collapse, mudslides and heavy flooding for Hurricane Helene, and searched for survivors, provided emergency medical care and conducted water rescues for Hurricane Milton.
