Volunteers, like the 700-plus trained members of the City of New York’s Community Emergency Response Team (NYC CERT), are a vital component of disaster and emergency relief operations. Volunteers answered the call to action in many of NYC’s recent emergencies, from Post-Tropical Storm Cyclone Ida and Superstorm Sandy to the devastating building collapse in the East Village. You will find volunteers at beloved city events, from parades to polar plunges, helping distribute food and clothing to asylum seekers, and conducting the Annual Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE) survey.
