What is Clean Cooling and Heating?

Technologies like air source heat pumps use electricity to efficiently heat and cool your home. They can also filter out allergens, reduce noise, and reduce health risks associated with burning fossil fuels like oil and gas in your home.

How do heat pumps work?

Electric air source heat pumps draw heat from the environment and move it indoors for heating or move it outdoors for cooling. This keeps your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. This process requires much less energy to maintain a comfortable temperature than electric baseboard heat, space heaters, and window air conditioners. They are also quieter than most conventional systems.

Air Sealing & Insulation

Air leakage accounts for up to 70% of energy— and money— thrown away on cooling and heating, and can make your home feel too drafty. Having an expert identify, insulate, and seal air leaks helps your heating and cooling appliances operate more efficiently and eliminates drafts. As a bonus, air sealing can prevent water leaks and prevent pests from coming into your home. Air sealing and insulation is affordable, and can help reduce the costs of replacing your heating and cooling systems. ElectrifyNYC can help you find contractors and home assessors that are trained and certified.

What are air source heat pumps ?

Unlike conventional, less efficient heating and cooling systems, electric heat pumps draw heat from their surrounding environment and move it indoors for heating or move it outdoors for cooling a home.

What happens to my old furnace, boiler, or AC unit once I qualify for heat pump installation?

A contractor can give you the option to remove your old furnace, boiler, or AC unit so you can reclaim additional square footage or leave it in place. Together we'll decide what is best based on your needs.

I'm a new homeowner, and considering whether solar energy and clean cooling alternatives are right for me. Can you help me with both?

Yes. Our team can assess your home for solar energy and heat pumps. We can also connect you to NYSERDA's Residential Energy Audit Program for a comprehensive energy assessment.

How effective are heat pumps at filtering out pollutants from the outside air it is drawing in?

Air source heat pumps have a variety of filters inside of them that can help filter out odors, irritants, allergens, as well as pollutants. They are much more effective in keeping your home's air quality safe than a window AC unit. A ductless mini-split filter is easier and cheaper to keep clean than central air ducts.

I have a contractor in mind, can I just have them install my new heat pumps?

Yes. If you have an installer or HVAC or solar professional you'd like to work with, let us know and we will connect them to Con Edison and NYSERDA for rebate programs and installation incentives. Keep in mind they will need to be a NYSERDA- approved contractor in order to obtain incentives and rebates.
