Open Airways for Schools® is a program that teaches children how to control their asthma so they can reduce their hospital visits and school absences. Asthma is the most common, chronic childhood illness and the number one cause for children missing school.
The free program is taught by school nurses and public health educators in public and private schools throughout NYC. It is offered to third, fourth and fifth graders during school.
The Open Airways program is delivered through a partnership with the American Lung Associations of the City of New York, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the NYC Department of Education and the NYC Council.
