Rubén Darío Cruz

A Community Arts Leader and Advocate for Social Justice, Rubén has worked as an advocate for immigrant, women, and LGBTQ+ rights. He is especially passionate about language justice as the key to empowering immigrant and marginalized communities through information. Through the Latin American Intercultural Alliance, Rubén and friends have worked to make programming at Elmhurst Hospital available in multiple languages. During the pandemic, he created the Queens Pet Pantry in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office of Animal Welfare, ASPCA and the NY Humane Society to provide pet supplies to residents. Since 2021, Rubén has worked as a poll worker ensuring voter accessibility in multiple languages and people with disabilities.
