Street Tree Planting Permit

About

City Parks and Recreation, Department of

To plant a tree on New York City property, a business must obtain a Tree Planting Permit and hire a landscape contractor directly to complete the work.

A full guide to street tree planting is available at the Street Tree Planting Permit Application and Street Tree Planting Standards link below and details the required process, planting specifications, and species choices.

All trees planted must be guaranteed by the landscape contractor for two years from planting.

Trees have to be planted during one of the two planting seasons:
- Spring season: March 15th to May 15th
- Fall season: October 15th to December 15st

Additionally, please note that certain species can only be planted during the Spring season.
