Before you submit your application

    All applicants must obtain a commercial general liability insurance policy. For specific requirements please refer to Section § 2-06 of the NYC Highway Rules, linked on 'About' tab.

      All applicants must first register with DOT by completing a Registration Application, available on the 'About' tab. Upon submission of a properly completed registration application and the required insurance the applicant will be issued an ID number, referred to as a permittee number.

        Businesses that are Corporations or Partnerships must have an Employer Identification Number (EIN). Sole proprietors may use their Social Security Number.

          Design plans, including site plans, topographical plans, maintenance plans, grading detail plans, swell and erosion control water detail plans, storm sewer plans, road layout plans, truck route plans, road profiles, and two proposed storm water profiles. Cubic yards of filling/excavation should be clearly listed on the plans.

            A survey and outline of the property performed by a licensed surveyor.

              • $135 for 30 days
              • $25.00 inspection fee for the first 400 cubic yards and $0.05 per cubic yard in excess of 400 cubic yards

                Steps to apply in person:

                Complete the Application for Roadway and Sidewalk Permits, linked above.
                • 2
                  Submit the application, along with the applicable fee listed below, in person to the Office of Permit Management and arrange a site inspection.
                  • 3
                    After the site inspection, DOT will issue the permit to the applicant at the Office of Permit Management.
