Health and Mental Hygiene, Department of City
Food Protection Course for Mobile Food Vendors

The NYC Health code requires that all applicants for a Mobile Food Vendor license be certified in food protection.  The Food Protection Course for Mobile Vendors trains individuals in food protection practices to ensure the safety of the food served in New York City's mobile food carts and trucks.  This course is limited to individuals who are applying for a Mobile Food Vendor license.  When you register for this course you must also apply for a license.  Registration for this course must be done in person at the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) Licensing Center.

This class is offered in English and Bangla.

Frequency and Duration: This is an eight-hour course conducted over two days, four hours each day.  Two English classes are head most weeks, one on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and another on Thursdays and Fridays.  The schedule for the Bangla class varies.

Completion of this course and passing of the final exam satifies that requirement.

The information on this page does not encompass other health-related aspects of or requirements for owning and operating a mobile food vending business.

Replacement Requests
If you are in need of a replacement certificate, email healthacdmy@health.nyc.gov with “FPC replacement” in the subject field. If you took the class more than 10 years ago you must retake the course and pass the final exam.
