The 9th NYC Global Partners summit “Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship: City Strategies” brought together 22 global cities to share best practices in developing policies and partnerships that promote business innovation, entrepreneurship and job growth. This summit was developed in cooperation with the NYC Economic Development Corporation, and co-sponsored by Columbia University and the World Bank. GE provided generous support for the three-day event.
The summit brought together official city delegations from Bangalore, Barcelona, Berlin, Bucharest, Budapest, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Geneva, Ho Chi Minh City, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Kiev, Lisbon, Luxembourg, Lyon, Montréal, Munich, New York City, Panama City, Stockholm, Tel Aviv and Tokyo. Attending mayors included Sharadamma Ramanjaneya, Mayor of Bangalore; Sorin Oprescu, Mayor of Bucharest; István Tarlós, Mayor of Budapest; Patricia de Lille, Mayor of Cape Town; Pierre Maudet, Mayor of Geneva; Le Hoang Quan, Mayor of Ho Chi Minh City; and Parks Tau, Executive Mayor of Johannesburg
New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, GE CEO Jeffrey R. Immelt, who serves as chair of the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, opened the program as the featured speakers in a conversation moderated by Professor Meyer Feldberg, President of New York City Global Partners. Their presentation was part of a three-day international meeting of government officials and private sector representatives showcasing best practices, such as promoting entrepreneurship through access to capital and affordable incubator space; facilitating business creation by reducing government red tape; supporting infrastructure for energy efficient business development; and creating public-private partnerships which diversify the local economy and develop the workforce.Resources
