MAYOR RUDOLPH W. GIULIANI ISSUED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT REGARDING THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION SITE-SELECTION COMMITTEE'S DECISION TO HOLD THE 2000 REPUBLICAN NATIONAL CONVENTION IN PHILADELPHIA:

"While I can think of no better place to hold the 2000 Republican National Convention than in New York City -- the Media Capital of the World -- I feel that Tuesday's election results probably tipped this decision in Philadelphia's favor. Both Pennsylvania and New York re-elected Republican Governors, but Pennsylvania also re-elected a Republican Senator with his largest percentage win ever. On the other hand, the New York electorate voted out of office a senior member of the Republican Party with 18-years of experience in the Senate, and this may have influenced the Site-Selection Committee's decision.

To paraphrase the old adage: if the Supreme Court reads election results, then the Republican National Committee must read them as well."
