MAYOR GIULIANI AND MAYOR GOLDING OF SAN DIEGO WAGER ON YANKEES - PADRES WORLD SERIES

Mayor Looks For Repeat Of 1996 As Yankees Fever Sweeps The City

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and Mayor Susan Golding of San Diego set wagering terms today on the outcome of the 1998 World Series between the New York Yankees and the San Diego Padres, which begins tonight at Yankee Stadium.

When the Yankees win, Mayor Golding will send Mayor Giuliani an authentic San Diego made surfboard, a package of assorted San Diego software, San Diego Padres rightfielder Tony Gwynn's book, The Art of Hitting, a "feast" from Rubios Mexican restaurant and swim trunks from Hang Ten Jams. Mayor Golding will also wear a Yankees cap on her way into San Diego's City Hall.

In the unlikely event the Padres squeak by, Mayor Giuliani will send Mayor Golding a case of Coney Island's famous Nathan's hotdogs, tickets to the world-renowned Metropolitan Opera, a personal guided tour of the Bronx Zoo and a Junior's Strawberry Cheesecake. Mayor Giuliani will also wear a San Diego Padres cap on his way into New York's City Hall.

"With their 35th American League Pennant under their belt, the Yankees are once again unstoppable and on their way to their 24th World Series victory," said Mayor Giuliani. "In recent days the City hospitals have reported an increase in cases of Yankees Fever and I don't expect it to subside until our Ticker-Tape Parade up the Canyon of Heroes. I'm looking forward to watching the Yankees improve on their record season, adding another World Series trophy to the trophy case at City Hall, and surfing the East River in my new San Diego swim trunks on my new surfboard."

So far this playoff season Mayor Giuliani has won a 10-gallon hat and a Texas-size portion of Texas Barbecue from Mayor Odom of Arlington Texas, 10 pounds of Polish sausage, a case of Cleveland Micro-brewed beer, a pair of tickets to the Cleveland Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame and a pair of tickets to the Cleveland Orchestra from Mayor White of Cleveland, Ohio.
