"Today we honor the important contributions New Yorkers of Hispanic heritage make to our City and we salute the United Hispanic American Parade, one of the City's most colorful parades," Mayor Giuliani said. "I have always believed that the key to our strength and success as a city is the fact that New York is the most diverse City in the world. We are home to people from 220 different nationalities and ethnicities. And while nearly 30 percent of our City can be defined as Hispanic, these New Yorkers represent cultures and countries as diverse as Cuba and Columbia, the Dominican Republic and the country of Spain itself.
"The 34th United Hispanic American Parade honors the highly distinct cultures that have been transforming New York for more than a century," the Mayor continued. "I want to thank Juan Benitez for organizing the Parade and I invite all New Yorkers to take part in this wonderful cultural celebration on Sunday."
The United Hispanic American Parade will be held this Sunday, October 11th, as thousands of New Yorkers representing 52 different Hispanic organizations march up Fifth Avenue from 44th Street to 79th Street.
