Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani's Statement on CUNY Trustees Vote to Reform Remedial Education at CUNY Senior Colleges:

"The Trustees deserve congratulations for a courageous vote. They were under tremendous pressure to defeat the proposal, and they should take great pride in their action. Their vote sends a powerful message that CUNY is starting the important and difficult process of restoring its reputation as one of the great public institutions of higher learning in the country.

Their vote also should be applauded by CUNY students and prospective students who will now begin to receive a more rewarding and valuable college education, and a college degree that will be of immensely greater value when they seek jobs after graduation. The vote today enables students who need remedial help to get it before they enroll in a senior college, while making sure that those students who want and have earned a first class public college education, can get that education at CUNY."
