MAYOR GIULIANI CELEBRATES EASTER WITH "EGGSTRAVAGANZA" EVENTS IN CENTRAL PARK

52nd Annual Easter Festival Marks the Beginning of Spring in New York City

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, joined by Parks Commissioner Henry J. Stern, today celebrated Easter and kicked off the start of Spring at the 52nd annual Easter Eggstravaganza in Central Park.

"There is no better way to celebrate the Easter holiday than with the wonderful Easter activities here today in Central Park," Mayor Giuliani said. "Every year, the Easter season signifies the beginning of Spring, a beautiful season in New York City. I want to thank the City's Parks Department and today's sponsors and performers for making this such a festive celebration."

The festival, which attracted more than 50,000 people, began with the annual egg roll and included live performances by the casts of the Broadway shows 1776, Cabaret, The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Sound of Music, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Beauty and the Beast, Forever Tango, Forbidden Broadway, the Fantasticks, and Joseph Gabriel's Magic '98. The celebration also featured hot-air balloon rides, cappella groups, and performances by CityKids, TADA!, Theatrix, Theatreworks USA and Foot & Fiddle Dance Company.

This year's celebration was sponsored by Barricini Candies.
