Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today hosted a reception for "Images of Immigration" photo exhibit at the Tweed Courthouse in City Hall Park, Manhattan. Mounted by the Museum of the City of New York and entitled "Give Me Your Tired...Images of Immigration," the exhibit features a collection of photographs, illustrations and documents that depict the arrival of immigrants to New York City from 1880 to 1924.
Joining Mayor Giuliani during the ceremony were Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs and Language Services Executive Director Angie Tang, Museum of the City of New York Director Robert MacDonald and 100 Year Association of New York President Richard Cook.
"It is a pleasure to welcome such an important exhibit to the Tweed Court House," Mayor Giuliani said. "These images tell the story of the millions of immigrants who came to New York City from around the world through Castle Garden and Ellis Island in search of a better life for themselves and their children.
"With the Thanksgiving holiday a few days away, it is a fitting time to reflect upon the tremendous contributions immigrants have made to our great City. It is important for us all to learn about the immigration experience because it defines us in so many ways," the Mayor added. "In these days when immigration has come under attack, exhibits like this remind us what America has always stood for."
On behalf of the 100 Year Association of New York, President Cook presented Mayor Giuliani with an award for his outstanding leadership. The award inscription commended Mayor Giuliani for assuring New York City's continued strength and vitality by championing the cause of immigration.
The exhibit will be on display at Tweed Gallery from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through November 28th.
