MAYOR GIULIANI MARCHES IN THE JACKSON HEIGHTS
HALLOWEEN PARADE AS GRAND MARSHALL
Grand Marshall Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani today marched in the eighth
Annual Jackson Heights Halloween Parade along with thousands of costumed children and adults. Also in attendance at the Parade, which is sponsored by the Jackson Heights Beautification Group, were Queens Borough President Claire Shulman, and Chairman of the Parade Ralph Rivera.
"It is a real joy to be part of this fun family tradition --the Jackson Heights Halloween Parade, where so many happy hearts are disguised behind scary faces," Mayor Giuliani said. "I am honored to be the Grand Marshall of this great event and I commend Ralph Rivera, and the Jackson Heights Beautification Group for the hard work and enthusiasm they put into making this wonderful parade a tremendous success."
Mr. Rivera said, "This is one of the few nights that the family can get together and enjoy a fun, spooky, playful evening. It's the spark of the Holiday season for the Jackson Heights community and we are delighted that the Mayor took the time to join us today."
The parade started at 37th Avenue at 88th Street and continued down to 75th Street in Queens. At the end of the parade, the Mayor assisted in distributing 3,500 bags of treats to participating children.
Local merchants and volunteers in the Jackson Heights community provided the funds and assistance to make the parade possible.
