STATEMENT BY MAYOR RUDOLPH W. GIULIANI REGARDING THE STATE SENATE VOTE ON THE CASINO GAMBLING AMENDMENT
"We were pleased with today's action by the State Senate in voting down a bill which would have placed a statewide referendum on casino gambling on the ballot this November. Our opposition to this legislation is simple: it arbitrarily excludes New York City from participation in legalized casino gambling and grants selective rights to other communities in New York State. As long as New York City continues to be treated differently than other parts of the State -- and not given the same local options as other areas -- we will oppose any legislation or referendum that would legalize casino gambling."
