MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION INCREASING THE MAXIMUM PRICE AT NEWSSTANDS

Remarks by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

“The final bill before me in Introductory Number 1048-A, sponsored by Council Members Koslowitz, Brewer, Comrie, Dromm, Fidler, James, Koo, Mendez, Palma, Richards, Van Bramer, Arroyo, Garodnick, Gennaro, Reyna, Vann and Ulrich.

“Introductory Number 1048-A increases the maximum price a newsstand can charge for a single item from $5 to $10.  The maximum price was last increased in 2002.

“I would like to thank Department of Consumer Affairs Commissioner Jonathan Mintz and his staff for their work on this bill along with my Office of City Legislative Affairs.  I would also like to thank the City Council for approving this legislation.”
