STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON BOROUGH-WIDE LAUNCH OF MTA BUS TIME IN STATEN ISLAND

Expanding Bus Time Pilot was a Part of the Mayor’s 2009 Campaign Mass Transit Plan and PlaNYC

“In an increasingly digital world, it’s more important than ever to provide New Yorkers with the 21st Century mass transit system they need and deserve. Today, the MTA took a positive step towards that goal by launching Bus Time in Staten Island – a real-time tracking service that will provide greater convenience and more flexibility to New Yorkers. Innovations like Bus Time, which will allow commuters in Staten Island, and eventually all New Yorkers, to check the real-time location of their next bus, are the result of the kind of entrepreneurial spirit and creativity our City thrives upon. It’s the reason our tech community is growing rapidly, and why two of the firms involved in Bus Time – Open Plans and Mobile Commons – are local New York tech start-ups. Our City is home to the smartest and most talented workforce, and it’s the perfect place for homegrown companies like Open Plans and Mobile Commons to expand and thrive. That’s good news for commuters, our budding tech sector and all New Yorkers.”
